CUHK Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic / Major Infection

  • Influenza pandemic occurs when there is a global spread of a novel influenza virus against which the human population has little or no immunity. To ensure an efficient and effective management system in response to possible occurrence of novel influenza outbreaks in Hong Kong as well as on campus, the Committee on Health Promotion and Protection has drafted a CUHK Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic after intensive discussions.
  • The university's preparedness plan incorporates the Government's Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic. In addition to the three response levels of the Government system, the CUHK's plan covers the situation when no clinical suspected or confirmed case is identified as well as the condition when there are human cases of novel influenza causing serious impact to human health on campus.
  • The university's preparedness plan describes the measures to be taken by Colleges, departments and units on campus at different stages of a novel influenza outbreak.

General Preparedness and Vigilance Action to be taken on campus to maintain preventive measures, personal hygiene habit, environmental hygiene, and vigilance for prevention of large-scale influenza outbreaks.

Alert Response Level *

Alert Response Level corresponds to a situation where the risk of a novel influenza virus causing new and serious health impact in Hong Kong is low.

Serious Response Level *

Serious Response Level corresponds to a situation where the risk of a novel influenza virus causing new and serious impact to human health in Hong Kong is moderate.

Emergency Response Level *

Emergency Response Level corresponds to a situation where the risk of a novel influenza virus causing new and serious impact to human health in Hong Kong is high and imminent.

Urgent Response Level

There is confirmation of novel influenza outbreaks on campus. Evidence shows that the virus can cause serious illness and pose a significant impact on the health of students and staff.

* These correspond with the 3-level response system of the Government's Preparedness Plan for Influenza Pandemic.
