United College Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme – E-Mentorship
With the generous financial support of Mr. Shum Choi Sang, the Chairman of the College Board of Trustees, the United College Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme, jointly organized by United College and the United College Alumni Association, was launched in 2000. The main purpose of the Programme is to foster a mentoring relationship between UC's alumni and its cohort of undergraduate students. Through this mentoring, it is anticipated that students will be able to build up self-confidence, develop good ethics and communication skills, and enhance their knowledge beyond mere book-learning. In 2003, the Programme was expanded to include an overseas section whereby students going on exchange can be paired up with mentors in various countries of their visits.
In view of the increasing number of UC students going on overseas exchanges and in line with other developments on the exchange front of the University and the College, the Mentorship Programme Coordinating Committee will add to its overseas section a new sector named E-Mentorship in 2011. The main difference between Overseas Mentorship and E-Mentorship is that e-mentors provide guidance and support to students studying abroad through e-communications only. Besides, e-mentors are not restricted to those who have graduated from the College for eight years or more. This new programme will run from May to April in the following year.
