Dr. Wang was born in Peking and after having attended secondary schools in Hong Kong and China went to the United States in 1949. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Maryland and his M. A. and Ph.D. degrees in history from Georgetown University. Dr. Wang entered the U.S. Government service in 1955 as an instructor in Chinese in the Foreign Service Institute, Department of State. He joined the Far Eastern Languages Section of the Descriptive Cataloging Division of the Library of Congress in 1958. In the Descriptive Cataloging Division, he assisted the Library of Congress in installing the first photocomposing machine in the United States. Under Dr. Wang's planning and supervision, a new printing procedure for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean catalogue cards was developed, which is still in use today. In 1960 he was promoted Oriental Science Specialist, Science and Technology Division. Dr. Wang became the Assistant Head of the Library's Chinese and Korean Section in 1966. Dr. Wang has been a part-time professor of Chinese and Far Eastern History at Georgetown University during the past ten years. He has also served in various U.S. Government agencies, research institutions and learned societies as consultant in research projects and publications pertaining to East Asia. Among his publications are Mainland China Organizations of Higher Learning in Science and Technology and Their Publications, Japanese Scientific and Technical Serial Publications in the Collections of the Library of Congress, Nuclear Science in Mainland China: A Selected Bibliography, Chinese History, Selected Works in English — A Preliminary Bibliography. Between 1967 and 1970, Dr. Wang also served as the co-editor of the Chinese Education (a quarterly journal published by the International Arts and Sciences Press, White Plains, New Yo r k ). Reception for Overseas Librarians A reception in honour of several leading librarians from Far Eastern libraries in the United States was given on 18th January, 1971. Dr. Chi Wang, University Librarian, hosted the reception and introduced the visiting scholars to meet many Hong Kong librarians and other guests.
